D&D Racing

D & D Cycles is proud to announce that we have been named one of only two dealers in the country to be getting factory sponsored by Triumph Motorcycles.

D&D Cycles has recieved a brand new Daytona 675, as well as race parts from Triumph Motorcycles, and we're getting ready to defend their four National Championships this year! Come by the shop and check out progress on our Triumph Daytona 675 that will be fielded in the Daytona 200 this year, as well as other A.M.A. Formula Extreme races this year.

Our two riders, Rob McLendon & Tim Joyce, have numerous National Championship titles between them, and also plan to race the W.E.R.A. and A.H.R.M.A. road race series. New Page 1
DAYTONA NEWS:

The D & D Cycles race team has just arrived back from two weeks of racing, culminating with the Daytona 200.

The two week schedule started with the A.H.R.M.A. road race series at Roebling Road Raceway, Savannah, Georgia.

In the Sound of Thunder class, Tim Joyce powered his new Triumph Daytona 675 to a first place finish, while Rob McLendon finished third.

In the Triumph Thruxton Challenge class, National Ranked #1 Rob McLendon picked up the 1st place finish.

Flash forward to March 3rd at Daytona International Speedway Rob McLendon finishes 3rd, and Tim Joyce takes 6th in the Sound of Thunder Class on their Daytona 675s, then after some minor adjustments, they better the results on Tuesday, March 4th, with a 1st for McLendon on his A.H.R.M.A. National #1 machine, and 2nd for Joyce.

Again, Rob McLendon took 1st place finishes on the Thruxton both days at Daytona.

Wednesday, March 4th was A.M.A. Formula Extreme practice. Great weather, great practice. But with a bike like the Triumph Daytona 675, about the only thing we had to do was dial in the bike for the additional horsepower over last year, tweak the suspension a bit more, and figure out why it was eating up rear tires.

Thursday, March 5th: A.M.A. Formula Extreme Qualifying day. In the second qualifying session of the day, after a few minor mechanical issues with suspension and tires that required him to qualify on his 2nd bike, Rob qualified at the top of the group, giving us a 43rd place (2nd WAVE)start on the grid for the Daytona 200.

Friday, March 6th: Off day for A.M.A. road racers. Good thing, too, because it STORMED all day.

Saturday, March 7th: A.M.A. Formula Extreme Daytona 200. Rob McLendon started 43rd on the grid, in the 2nd wave of riders, first row.

After only a couple of laps, McLendon was able to catch the lead wave of racers, and move up in the field, slowly and methodically picking off the rear riders in the first group.

By his first pit stop, McLendon had placed his Triumph Daytona 675 soundly into the top half of Daytona 200 contenders.

From the first pit stop at lap 22, Team D & D Cycles knew Rob McLendon's time spent in the pit was among the shortest of the lower budget teams, Rob's lap times were actually improving as the race went on, and he was getting more comfortable in the saddle.

By the time McLendon came in for a rear tire on his 2nd pit stop , there was a mis-communication from rider to pit, and he arrived early in the pit with little or no warning to the crew that he would like to be "re-tired" at that time. Not to worry, Team D & D Cycles actually had their fastest pit stop of the day, adding fuel to the bike and rider, as well as a rear tire.

After the last pit stop of the race for McLendon, it was all about bike and rider, and it was quite evident that both racer and bike were up to the challenge, with a final position of 16th in the Daytona 200.

Quoted racer Rob McLendon "after a finish like that in the Daytona 200, I cannot wait for the Barber's race on April 19th. Even though this is an ongoing developmental program I'd like to once again thank Triumph Motorcycles for their continued support of our race program, and for building such an awesome bike."

For those of you considering a Daytona 675 for the street or the race track, remember, Rob finished in the top third last year in the Daytona 200 Formula Extreme race on a stock bike, against some of the biggest names in motorcycle racing, not to mention some of the biggest bank rolls....

Again, many thanks to Triumph Motorcycles for their sponsorship!!!

In other race news:

Triumph racers Rob McLendon and Tim Joyce have just returned from Jennings GP Raceway March 23rd completing two days of WERA racing, and it seems as if these two Triumph Daytona 675s are really dialed in!

Rob beat out the field to take 1st place in the B Superbike Expert class, and picked up three 2nd place finishes in the Superbike Expert class, Formula 2 Expert class, and a 2nd place fiish in the Mediumweight Solo 20 Expert class.

Tim snagged a 1st place finish in the Heavyweight Twins Superbike Expert class, and took home a 2nd in the Senior Superbike Middleweight Expert class. He finished the weekend with a top five finish in the Medium Solo 20 Expert class.

Rob Mclendon III has taken the job as AHRMA's National Dirt Track Director. This winter the team has been hard at work preparing the bikes for competition. So far the BSA B50 chassis got a Walt Metzler makeover this winter and Dink has been hard at work coaxing some more power from the engine. We have also acquired a Trackmaster Triumph 750 twin for Sportsman 750 and as always, we have our trusty Steve Hartley framed Yamaha 500 for the highly competitive 70's singles class. Come on out to the races and show your support.
